Workshop on Introduction to Group Analytic psychotherapy
23 October 2023 to 27 October 2023
The Hong Kong Psychotherapy Centre is going to hold a workshop on the Introduction to Group Analysis from 23 October 2023 to 27 October 2023. This is the second time HKPC held this little workshop. The first was held in 2001.
Group Analysis is a well established method of group psychotherapy which was originated by Dr. S.H. Foulkes in the 1940’s. It has been widely practiced around the world. It focuses on the interaction between the individual members and the group as a whole. Members in the group do not take turns being analyzed while the others listen, but a group process develops from which everyone in the group gains at the same time. If you are interested in this approach, do have a personal experience of it in the workshop.
The five-day workshop will consist of lectures and experiential groups. The language medium of lectures is English with Cantonese translation. If you are in the group with a local conductor, Cantonese is used in the group. Each group will have around 10 members. You will be in the same group throughout the workshop. In order not to affect the group dynamic, participants are required to join all the small group sessions.
We have the honor of Kevin Power as our guest speaker this time. Kevin Power is a consultant psychotherapist and group analyst. He was employed by NHS as a Principal Psychotherapist with the Kent Mental Health NHS Trust in part-time (0.4) base. This includes three group-analytic psychotherapy groups, assessing and working with individuals, providing supervision for other psychotherapists and at times consultation with other clinical staff from OT’s to Psychiatrists. Retired from NHS June 2019. He is private psychotherapy practice for individuals and groups in Canterbury which currently includes a private psychotherapy group and working analytically with individuals. He has rich experience in supervision to individuals and work groups, in teaching and conducting workshops. It is indeed a treasure for us that he could make this trip to Hong Kong. I am sure it is worthy of your making an effort to come.
